I have an odd problem. When I shift into reverse, the reverse lights don't always go on. When shifting from park the lights almost always don't turn on but when shifting from neutral, they almost always do (almost is the key word there). What turns on the reverse lights and what should I look for to be the cause of this?

Thanks

My '73 Mercedes 280C did that. The lights would only go on if engaged from neutral. It must be a switch in the shifter or the transmission.

I had to replace the MLPS($90.) on my 92 GM, not the price I imagined to solve a back up lamps failure, but check if yours is it's adjusted properly before buying a new one.

Mine did that from brand new. Switch was misadjusted. I could feel the engagement through the lever. I just never cared enough to adjust it. If I needed them to come on I'd move the lever back towards P another 1/8" or so and the switch would close and turn on my lights.

ROFL

That's what I was thinkin...

Anyway be sure to check your MLP (Manual Lever Position) sensor, which is located on the transmission. It has the shifter cable running through it. It's likely that's either loose or bad. I got mine for $27.

Good Luck!
