Today my front right window made a loud cracking sound as it was closing and then it stopped alogether, and now it does not work at all. I found two pieces of broken white plastic on the bottom of the door well after taking apart the door, and the silver metal cable was dangling. The glass is fine.

The guy at the Ford Parts counter said a piece of routing plastic from my regulator has broken off and he showed me how to put on a new one. It costs $89 for the regulator, and one of the mechanics offered to come over and install it for me for $50 if I did not want to hassle with it, and I'm inclined to have him do that.

But first I thought I'd ask if anyone has a better idea, or if perhaps I can avoid paying $89 for the regulator. My thinking is that a junkyard regulator isn't a good bet since if the palstic tends to break anyway, why get an old one that wil just break sooner. Thanks.

Where I bought my car, he charges $25 to install. You CAN do it yourself, there's alot to do because you have to take off so much stuff, drill out somethings to get to the screws, etc.

I've seen it done 3 times.

My driver door one made the same sound and now does not work. Could it be my motor? Or just the regulator? My dad said my motor was gone and have to replace it.

If you hear the crackling sound, it is the regulator. The crackling sound is the cable twisting and bunching up.

The motors are RARELY the culprit vs the regulator.

Ahhh I see then, yep, I heard a loud crunching sound, it went up all the way, went down about two inches, and never came back up, had to pull it up with my hands. Thanks for the info though, here I was going to get a whole motor.

I've had two windows fail. drivers left and drivers right (this is ford confusion for drivers and drivers rear)

I rolled down the windows to the car when pulling it up to the garage to get it fixed.. crunch the drivers rear failed broke right there.

You need a drill because there are some "buttons" you have to drill out so you can access the screws. You will also have to remove all door trim (even the exterior piece) as this makes it possible later to actually remove the window (yes you have to). I can almost do it by memory but need to be looking at the door. (visual person)

lol, I'm going to have my cousin's garage put it on for me. I have heard stories where if you're not careful with the window, there is some sort of blade that can cut your hand? Is this true?

defentially a Window Regulator, *thinks back to when his broke* I remember the plastic, wrie, etc all too well cause I thought it was just the motor and tried so many times to put it back togather, it just won't happen.

Now for the blade theory I don't know if anything ready to jump out and cut you unless you broke the glass or started reaching around looking for a sharp object
