DaveA2002 Rookie Registered: 11/08/02 Posts: 77	I heard a zapping sound coming from the engine. Turns out there is a little spark coming out of the spark plug cable - right at the dist. cap. Any ideas? Was in a rush this morning so couldn't play with it. Could it be a faulty cable?

DaveA2002 Rookie Registered: 11/08/02 Posts: 77	How safe is it to drive like that? My wife has school tonight and I'm wondering if I should drive her in my Jeep. The car is running a little rough, so I imagine that spark isn't getting through to the plug and it's running on 7 cylinders.

It is not particularily dangerous unless you also have a fuel leak in the engine compartment but it will damage the cats on that side and they are expensive. It does not do the cylinder wall and rings any good to have unignited fuel washing the lubricating oil off either.

stevo Over the Hill Registered: 05/15/03 Posts: 2738 Loc: Wisconsin--most of the time	Replace the wire set (spark plug wires) and the plugs (gap to .054"). That should do the trick. About $100. DIY job. Cylinders Bank 1 (passenger side), Bank 2 (driver's side) 4, 8 3, 7 2, 6 1, 5 FAN Before you remove the spark plugs, Shop-vac out the recessed holes, 1/4 turn on all spark plugs, and vacuum again to remove any more loose debris. Do not overtighten the spark plugs. Snug and a little more is what I use to determine torque. Check your work.
