I have done a search on this and came up empty. I have a 01 PI with 90K. The car is showing a 0430 code. I figure its the cat or an o2 sensor. Will Ford fix this for free, ive read something along these lines but I coulnt find the posts again.
Thanks

The HEGO sensors are "wear items", and are generally NOT covered after 36,000 miles. The cats on the other hand, are covered for 8 years/80,000 miles under the Federal emissions warrenty, and 100,000 miles in CA as I recall.

Ford will not pay for the repair of your vehicle. Code p0430 means catalyst effeciency below threshold (banks 1&2). On the Crown Vic this is refering to the passengers cat. Under federal emissions, all vehicles in the US the cats are covered for 8yrs, or 80K which ever comes first. You have already exceeded the milage for the warranty. The cats are mighty expensive on these cars, very easy to replace though. On the 98 I had, I lowered the odometer to 70K, and the dealer replaced both cats, and intake with no questions asked. I know lowering the odometer is illegal, but saved me over $1500.00 in repairs. I then set the odometer back to the correct milage.

pretty bold statement to make over free net. Slick, i agree if it is federally mandated they should pay for it, and as far as the intake goes hell yes they should cover that too, but anyway pretty bold odometer statement to make on the net.

I really hope that you're just full of it. What would possess you to do such a thing?

not only a bold odometer statement.. but basic admission of defrauding Ford....

they can easily recover their costs and I do believe there is no three year statute of limitations on the time for them to do so in the case of fraudulent acts...but i may be way off on that... I know they can also recover legal fees in most frauds

Anyone reading this who works for Ford? good grief

By the way the answer about the cat is unfortunately accurate... that is a "cat" code often as not...

I have a 1997 vic throwing the same code - P0430. So if I were to replace the passenger side cat the code would go away? What about the rear cat? I was told there are 4 cat's on the 97 CV.
