Just installed this into mine, with install kit and twist connectors they sell with a backup camera. Came out great. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KWM855B/JVC-KW-M855BW.html

saw an Alpine double din on Crutchfield. its mechless & the depth is either 3 or 4 inches. They claim it wont fit my vic 99LX. (is that true? even after shaving the radio opening?

If you pull the factory radio, you'll see that the top back corner of the radio is non-existent due to the different duct work back there. At best, you could try heating and forming the duct to make the new radio fit, or possibly swap in a later duct (dunno if it can be done), though neither approach seems worth it if you really don't have to.

Here’s an Alpine iLX-W650 + Metra 95-5600 dash kit installed on Rene Gabriel’s ‘98 Grand Marquis. This bad boy is only 2.4” deep, no modifications to the A/C duct is required. You obviously have to shave the radio opening but aside from that it should fit like a glove. P.S. it supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Put in one of these + an amp in the trunk + sub a few months ago: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-cZOFsQkAY0b/p_130DMC2550/Pioneer-DMH-C2550NEX.html

The 'modular' chassis means no duct fitment problems. Sounds great and have the backup camera installed as well.

Got myself these for a moderate audio overhaul on my barge:

Head unit is just barely in, works fine. Still gotta run the backup cable to test the camera. Gotta say, this new head unit already sounds better than my awful old Alpine.

I was looking to upgrade my head unit to a single din, but couldn’t find anything with the aesthetic I liked. So I’m looking at doing a touch screen double din unit instead for a clean look, it seems as though on all installs there is some cutting/ removing of an upper plastic tab to get the unit installed securely.

Anyone know if the modification required to make the double din fit would prevent me from going back to the stock unit in the future?

I feel your pain. For the most part they look like they were designed by hyperactive children.

I tapped into the reverse lights in the trunk and ran it back up to the radio

The plastic tab that you need to trim is inside the hole about 3 inches from the front lip and up top. Simple dremel cut takes 2 minutes. It doesn't affect your ability to put the stock unit back in. I've done it on several cars when mounting these 2din android units. Highly recommended and they can cost as little as $50 unbranded.

Hey Guys. This is my first post here. I have had my 2011 CVPI for about a year and a half now. I just had the factory radio replaced with a JVC KW-Z1000W 10.1" Touch Screen unit. I also had factory speakers replaced with Kicker KS 6x8s. I made a short video showing the how JVC unit looks in the vic https://youtu.be/efocZkLNNK8 Posting here in case anyone might be interested in this upgrade.

EXCELLENT post. That JVC is a big box, traditional mount sort of 10.1 screen and you're proving that they will fit and look good. I'm guessing that your installers had to do some cutting to get it in. But it will go in.

I installed a cheap $99 10.1" Chinese Android in mine and 6 months in I still love it. Mine sits in the same position as yours but is velcro mounted to the dash. It's thin and light, not a big box, so the velcro works fine.

I have a question I can't find an answer for after using the search function. The car is an 04 p71, I replaced the radio with a ford factory 6 CD changer. Don't know what it came from but can get part numbers off of it, and it was literally plug and play. It has satellite radio function but can anyone tell me what else I need to use it, tuners, interface, antenna, etc? Thanks in advance.

Pictures of the front and back would help greatly.
