I am ordering a Superchip and am just wondering where the PCM might be on a 1997 CV P74? Also any tips on the Superchip (installation/care)

Tom: Liquid's PCM article is a good one...the only things I might reinforce are:

1. Make SURE the battery is disconnected BEFORE you unhook the PCM, and don't hook it back up again until you're completely done re-installing it.

2. As with any electrostatically-sensitive device, don't handle your new chip any more than necessary. Leave it in its static-bag until you're ready to actually plug it in.

3. Make sure ALL the conformal coating (the clear plasticky-looking stuff, usually blue or green) is cleaned from the contact fingers, but be GENTLE...it is possible to scrub the printed traces right off the board if you're too heavy-handed.

4. Enjoy the new-found performance...I have no experience with Superchips, but if they're anywhere near as good as Dennis's, you will be impressed...!

If you dont follow this procedure, your chip may fail and or not last long as it should. Id use gloves 2.

I just got a call back from my local shop that was going to sell me the Superchip. They are saying that they dont make one any more for 4.6 V8. They only sell the hand-held tuner. BS or not. I think I'll just call Superchips or if you can reccomend another good performing chip. Thanks for the tech article BTW.

I didn't order it..I got the shop that was going to order it from the company. All I'm really interested in doing is remapping the tranny. It seems to take forever to shift when going WOT. Plus a few extra hp

Tom, not to take anything away from the chip idea, but if primarily what you want is the transmission re-programmed correctly, perhaps putting in a PI computer would suit? It does exactly that, and doesn't require the use of premium fuel, at a much lower up-front cost...just a thought...

Arg, I wish I could FIND an early PI ECM for my '92 LX... but have been told varying things by varying people. I'm pretty sure my car has an AOD tranny (not AODE), and I was told that '92 and up PIs all had AODE trannies, so I wouldn't be able to use 'em anyway. I do wish to get rid of the crappy 106 mph fun robber, but I don't want to get an aftermarket chip that would require the use of 93 octane, etc.. Seriously, if anyone has an extra EEC-IV PI module, then I'd gladly pay for it (within reason), or trade for a 2000 (EEC-V) PI module.
