Eric (88grandmarq) is up here this week and he brought a new shortblock he assembled. I've had a nightmare of problems at work, so he's been doing a bit on his own, but I managed to free myself up for some time. Here's the progress so far:

Day 1 (Saturday):

Stock engine

Day 2 (Sunday):

Old Engine

New Engine on stand

Painted and cleaned oil pan...yummy

Old cats...meow

Radiator hanging out in the driveway....what's that sitting on the ledge there???

Oh...it's the CFI unit, getting rained on.

Engine mock assembled to check intake/valve cover/head clearance. Everything looks good.

And for you old schoolers...

mechanical fuel pump.

I'll have some more of an update tomorrow!

Don't you want to paint the engine while it is on the stand?

Looks good so far. That old motor almost looks rusty inside. Maybe its varnish.

Keep us posted.

Nice! Hope you like the edelbrock. I loved mine when it worked. Refresh all of us lazy people who don't want to go search for the thread about the engine specs?

Engine is an '88 crown vic block, pistons and crank, with HO cam, 0.020" decked E7 heads, Weiand dual plane intake, Edelbrock 1406 carb, and Mustang shorty headers.

The water pump is going to be a new Duralast unit (Autozone) and the oil pump is a new high volume unit.

My thoughts exactly Phayzer. Fuel pumps are for wusses. All I have to do to fill my float bowls is turn the key on, you guys have to dump fuel in the carb and fire it up and then it dies. Repeat until it stops dying. I know my carb will never starve for fuel. AOD are you using the stock CV logs or did you manage to snag some shorties? Maybe even some stock 5.0 headers, they beat the hell out of CV logs. BTW what's your CR? If you give me your CC size, head gasket thickness (installed), and piston dish/valve relief size I can give you an accurate CR. I made a little calculator in Excel because I got sick and tired of typing all that crap into a calculator. Plus with Excel it doesn't round it off after every calculation.

The carb bowls should never be fully dry if everything is working properly, so we'll only have to prime the fuel system one time.

Yes, I am running 95 Mustang headers, not the stock logs. They're a huge improvement from the looks of it. I also just picked up an aluminized Flowtech offroad h-pipe through a co-worker with his ex-employee discount ($30? ) for the car.

CR estimate is 9 or so. Heads are 64cc, piston comes approx 0.050" above the block deck, pistons are recessed (standard CV piston, not sure the size), heads are decked 0.02", head gasket is standard thickness.

Pictures from yesterday, we only took 1 today...I'll post it later. Today's major project was going through the trans. We installed a shift kit (took about 3-4 hours) and the Mustang HO trans governor. woot.

Tomorrow we're getting up early to beat the heat and drop the tank to remove the stock fuel pump. We've got the front components of the engine, install the carb, and figure out all the new connections. bought a big trans cooler to install too.

Here's some pics:

and last...me in the engine bay (hehe) working on the fuel line to the mechanical pump.

I'll snap some pics tomorrow...
