Hey y'all,

I'm looking to tighten the steering a bit on my P71. There's no play in the steering wheel, I just want to make it a bit heavier and precise to make it more "sports car" like. I just want to hear your opinions on this, whether it's a good idea, and if anyone has done this before.

Thanks.

I have an '04 P71 as my daily, another '04 P71 as my parts car/future race car project, an '86 LTD 2-Door I'm restoring, and my non-panther weekend car is an LS1 Camaro. So that's that.

Your only limit to modifying Panthers are your imagination, DIY skills, and wallet.

Swap a 2007 P71 power steering pump into it. Its a lower volume and will make it stiffer.

Specifically a 2007 one or an aftermarket replacement?

2007 CVPI's had a lower output steering pump. I persoannly dont like it being stiff.

Aftermarket I dont know about......

I dont think 2007 is the stiff feeling you're looking for lol. Starving of boost during quick maneuvers doesn't feel sporty.
The feel you're after would probably be accomplished by a lower ratio steering rack and an aftermarket pump.

I would rebuild the entire front end and upgrade to 17inch wheels.

So is this why my 07 is super tight, almost like power steering totally drops out, when making sharp turns ie fully turning the wheels left or right? It only sat for about a month, month and a half, on a dirt lot miles from the ocean, before it hit auction so I don't think anything seized up, and I've put 1500 miles on it since I got it so everything should have been loosened up by now anyway.

For comparison, my 08 sat in a lot right off the bay for a year before it went to auction (ie a much higher chance of anything seizing up,) and the steering on sharp turns is not nearly as tight/hard.
