Description
Well - retired NYC taxi's get a lot of snobby upturned noses by people of all walks of life; however, I, on the other hand - find this car to be nothing short of beautiful. And if cars could talk......wow. 2006 model with 311,000 miles and I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere. Retired comfortably in Vermont and occasionally drive the 250 miles south to let it pound Broadway/Times Square for old times sake. Absolutely love it.

Awesome! I saw a handful of these on ebay recently. I really want a P70 just for fun. They're roomy as hell, inexpensive, and have a lot of history behind them.

Ahhh terrific! I got mine for $1000 - it seems to be the going rate for that year. Mine was a owner/operator owned vehicle so it was on the five year plan. I wanted an 06 for two reasons. First - when it was new, it would have originally been one of the last taxi's or so to have the old decals before getting the new style, AND, when I sit in the new pedestrian walkway in Times Square sipping espresso's with the tourists I can say my car has rolled right through here before. lol. No disrespect to the cvpi's - I've driven them for years, but eh...a NYC Taxi....?....don't see those too often; I highly recommend crown vic lovers save them - time is running out!

1k bucks seems like a very good deal to me..I think you did the right thing getting that car..I have been in alot of owner operator taxi's and all of them were in awesome condition and everything worked perfectly..Even the a/c was ice cold at 300K miles..I talked to some of the drivers and all were maintained better then a private owner car.

I recently saw a trailer of NYC taxi's headed to Miami..Looks like some NYC taxi's are starting new life in Miami.

Great looking car and it hasn't even been broken in yet...well i take that back, it's been broken in...A LOT. But at the end of the day, miles are just a number and don't mean much when it comes to Panthers.

Thanks for the comments; I appreciate it! Hopefully those cars in Miami will enjoy the palm trees and smooth pavement. But alas; sadly, they will all end up destroyed in a few years - simply because they are taxi's. This is the second taxi I've had - I had a 97 (a former p71) with 357K on it, and well, I admit - it was a POS; but I still liked it. But a NYC one...?...it's just - DIFFERENT. And for sure Steve, the mileage doesn't scare me a bit, so much has been replaced and quite frankly I've been around low mileage crown vics that break just as much as any old one. This one is a keeper (girlfriend hates it though - she grew up in Harlem - cabs don't mean a whole lot to her, and she doesn't appreciate the constant stares and questions at gas stations).

I really like how people recognize the personality in some cars. A brand new mustang can't beat a panther out personality wise (course the mustang sold its soul to the devil with the coyote 5.0, but that's a different story). What ever you do, I love to see a panther go to a loving home rather than the crusher!

buying one of these car that have been used, really proves how road worth it is. After all the abuse alot of them are put through. It isn't a bad looking car, it looks like its in pretty good shape for that many miles. And hey, that car right there would make a great sleeper. make it like the Taxi from the movie "Taxi".

And yeah thats just getting broke in good. These cars, they're like your best friend, they're loyal and how ever hard you are on them, they just keep coming back.

I got mine for $1350 about a year and a half ago. Owner Operator cars are sometimes are in better condition. Typically you can tell that they're O/Os because they got some nice rims or chrome on them, something a little special that separates them from the rest.

If you're happy that's all that matters.

The only advice I can give is don't F'in paint it at your house with Rustoleum and a Wagner power sprayer.... lol

Yeah you do, I thought they stripped the decals when they took them out of service like the P71's.

In my puny little town there are probably a dozen old P71's rolling around. On any trip I may take there is a good chance I might see a retired P71 on the road as well. I don't think I have ever, EVER - seen a retired yellow NYC cab rolling around. Maybe closer to the NY metro area there are a number of them kicking - but eh...I haven't met to many people who are interested in these cars - even the comments on this forum when a P70 is brought up people are like "PASS" LOL. Some of the fleet garages strip the decals - some don't. There are no NYC T and LC laws that require them to be removed that I am aware of. My old PD used to trade the cars in and never removed the decals off of them; I assume the dealers did prior to being put up for sale. Sometimes - on www.auctionsinternational.com, you will see old cruisers for sale with all the striping and words still on the car as well. I have a 1988 Petaluma, CA PD cruiser that still has everything on it - from the state seal to the words Police written all over it.

My friends kid [18 years ago] asked me to take him looking for a car last week..We looked at Asian cars [Camry,Accord and other junk as that is what he wanted to look it..All had close to 200K miles..I noticed sludge in some when I removed the oil cap..The bulk of the them had non working a/c [the winters are even warm down here] and all had one or more non working power windows.

Where I get gas at this Mobil station I am friendly with a cab driver who leaves his cab in the station overnight as he is not allowed to keep it where he lives due to crazy condo rules..He told me yesterday he is selling his 2007 P71 [was former FHP car] with 340K miles on it..He said he would let it go for 1100 bucks..It runs good and everything works..He just had it serviced and it needs nothing..Even the a/c is nice and cold..It was serviced at the Mobil station [Mobil 1 Express Lube Station] every 5K miles with Mobil 1 5w30..The car shows some wear but it is in overall good shape and in much better shape then all the junk we looked at the past week..It was maintained very well..In fact the owner recently had new brakes [all around] and tires put on it and car was aligned by the Ford dealer.

I told the kid later about it and told him for 1100 bucks it was a good deal..The other junk we looked was going for around 3K bucks..I told him it would be a big mistake to pass it up..He decided to listen to me and buy it.

The reason the taxi driver was selling his cab [84 years old] was because he decided to retire.
